Dear
Past Pupil,
The
annual reunion and AGM will be held this year on
Saturday, April 26th at 3 o'clock. This marks the
end of my second year and my term in office.
Once
again, it has been a very busy year for the PPU.
We marked our AGM last year with the very successful
launch of Sr. Ursula 's book "The Ursulines
In Cork Since 1771". We enjoyed meeting some
past boarders of Blackrock and some new faces
from St. Angela's. At this year's AGM, we are delighted
that music students from Blackrock and St
Angela's will entertain us during the afternoon.
In May, the PPU presented the Sr. Paul Perpetual
Trophy at the Annual Prizegiving and Ceremony
of Light at St. Angela's College. The PPU wished
all exam students the best of luck .
Our Golf outing took place at the Harbour Point
Golf Club on Monday September 10th. Colette Twomey
organised a great day out and a huge thank you to
all who took part and gave spot prizes.
In
September, we met St Angela's girls at their
annual Debs night. .This was held at the Moran
SilverSprings Hotel and a most enjoyable night
was had by all the PPU committee and teaching
staff that attended. We organised a video of the
debs that evening. In October, we invited the girls,
now past pupils themselves, to view the video and
reunite with friends .This proved to be very successful
and we hope to continue this next year.
In November, the PPU attended the Annual Prize Giving
and Awards Night in Blackrock, where we presented
the Sr. Rosario Perpetual Trophy for outstanding
school spirit .
In
December, our Christmas lunch was held in the Vienna
Woods Hotel on Sunday Dec. 2nd. We were delighted
to have Sr. Veronica join us on this occasion. Various
years of past pupils were represented. We
had entertainment from Marian Turner's table who
had composed a special song incorporating all the
ladies in their year. A copy of the lyrics and photograph
of the table is in the newsletter. There
were loads of spot prizes and a great
afternoon was had by all.
We had our annual Christmas meeting in Blackrock.
on December 11th. The recipients of our funds were
The Benevolent Fund, libraries of both schools as
well as the Irish M.E./C.F.S.Organisation.
My
Presidency will end at our AGM . It has been rewarding
in so many ways, particulary in the friendships
that have been made. I hope that I have put some
mark on the Presidency in the true Ursuline
Spirit. I have been blessed with a great committee
who are dedicated and hardworking. Many thanks
to all of you and I look foward to continue working
with the Past Pupils Union . I wish our new President
all the best in her term. Thank you to the Ursuline
Sisters, teachers and to school secretaries Gina
in Blackrock and Cathy in St Angela's , for
all their help. Special thanks to Ms. Geraldine
McDonald , St Angela's and Annette OSullivan,
Blackrock in compiling the achievement list
and arranging our musical entertainment for the
Annual General Meeting.
Finally
, I extend a warm welcome to all Ursuline Past Pupils
to our gathering in Blackrock on Saturday April
26th at 3 p.m.
Kind
regards,
Maureen
Lynch
