Annual Awards

The Annual Awards Ceremony took place in the autumn with guest speaker, pastpupil, Fiona Kearney, Director, Lewis Gluckman Gallery, UCC, presenting the prizes.

The Highest Academic Achievement Leaving Cert 2005 was Geraldine Wycherley, now studying Law at UCD.

Bank of Ireland Millennium Scholar was Catherine Ginnifer, Theatre and Drama student at UCC.

CSO Perpetual Cup and Bursary for Special Mathematical Achievement was shared by UCC student, Aaron O’ Dowling Keane and Geraldine Wycherley.

Bank of Ireland Student of the Year Award- Deirdre Griffin - Head Girl.

Lord Mayor’s Visit
Past Pupil, Deirdre Clune during her visit to UCB was presented with a bouquet by Jennifer King, daughter of Janet Egan, past pupil.

School Musical ‘Calamity Jane’ was a huge success involving a cast of 40 students and an orchestra of both past and present pupils.

Public Speaking
Eadaoin Looney won the Regional Final of the Sorotomists International Public Speaking Competition. Her prize was a trip to Strasbourg where she was elected president of the Youth Parliament.

Feis Maitiu
Blackrock won both the U-15 and U-17 Duet Singing Competitions and the Recorder Band Competition. The Madrigal Choir achieved 3rd prize.

Dance
Eve Doherty was awarded a dance bursary sponsored by past pupil, Nicki Hayes.

Art
Spirit of Cork Sculpture Competition - Roisin O’ Sullivan and Sarah Schmale won 3rd Prize.

Interact Club
Our club, under the auspices of the Douglas Rotary Club, continues to be the only junior rotary club in the country.

Science
2nd Years won three prizes in the Cork Electronics Industry Association Robot Competition.
1st Prize for both their Software Programme and Display.
2nd Prize overall, ousted both Pres and Christians in the course of the competition.
Two groups exhibited at the BT Young Scientist Competition - a great achievement considering that only 33% of projects are accepted.
Salters Science Competition at UCC - 1st years won Second Prize for forensic science.

Games
Basketball - UCB reached the Irish Quarter Finals U-16 Division A. Sinead and Orla O’Reilly visited Estonia as members of the Irish team.

Hockey - Seniors reached the Semi Final of the Senior B Cup. The U-15’s are league finalists.

Tabletennis - Sarah Dorney is on the Munster Panel.

Tennis - Our teams are competing in the Munster Cup and Shield

Chess - Teams are competing in interschool leagues and in-house tournaments

Charities - The school gave generous support to both the Tsunami Appeal and past pupil, Anne Copplestone’s appeal on behalf of the Hope Foundation as well as to many other charities.


The President and Committee of the Cork Ursuline Past Pupils’ Union are joined by all the Ursuline Sisters in Cork in congratulating Mary O’Donovan on becoming the distinguished recipient of this Papel medal and scroll. We bask in the reflected glory and are justly proud of her and her “Poro Ecclesia et Pontifice” award.
